All forms of Keno are played using a machine gaming platform, which handles very similarly to a standard lottery ticket. The Classic Online Keno board has 80 different numbers for players to choose from, and they may select anywhere from 1 to 10 numbers from the Keno board per game. In a single online Keno game, a draw of 20 random numbers will occur, and players earn winnings by choosing as many matching numbers as possible, known as “Hits.”
Your total winnings is determined by three different factors:
- Amount of wager per game
- How many numbers the player selected
- How many selected numbers hit
Selecting Numbers
To select your numbers, simply click on the desired number as it appears on the online Keno board. When you select a number, it will turn green, meaning you have activated it for the upcoming game. To remove a selected number from the round, simply click it again to deactivate it as a choice. You may choose between 1 and 10 numbers on any given round. You may also instruct the house to choose 10 numbers at random on your behalf by selecting the “Auto Select 10 Number” option on the game screen.
Placing Bets
Underneath the Keno board on the left middle side you will see a list that displays the potential Hit payouts that correspond directly to the number of matching hits.
Click the “Bet 1,” “Bet 3” or “Bet 5” buttons to enter in your desired wager per game or draw. You will notice that as you change your bet amount, the hit payout will change accordingly.
Playing Multiple Online Keno Rounds
Select from the “Play One,” “Play Five” or “Play Ten” to set the number of games you wish to play in automatic succession. Your bet amounts and selected numbers will remain locked in for these rounds.
Winnings
Underneath the Keno board is a display of each game that you have played and the number of hits you received in the round. By clicking on a specific round, you can bring up a comprehensive detail page showing all of the results. An accumulative sum of all of your winnings during the last round is also displayed below the Keno board.
To start a new game with new numbers and bet amounts, select “New Game.” To continue with your existing selected numbers and bet amounts, click on “Repeat Bet.”

Play the Maximum
Since classic online Keno represents nearly dead even odds to all players regardless of overall Keno experience level, your best chance at the best paydays is to play for the maximum number of spots each round. This will ensure that when you do hit a winning combination that the payout was worth the price of it. A common mistake many players make is betting too slow and/or not selecting enough numbers each round, which results in low payouts that make it very difficult to recoup losses and turn an eventual profit.
Don't Pick at Random
Even though Keno may appear to be the ultimate randomized online game, your long-term odds and entertainment factor (which is really the main enjoyment of playing Keno online) will be enhanced if you have specific number combinations that you want to play again and again. By putting together a list of your “lucky” numbers, many experts have found that players have a much more pleasurable time when playing Keno rather than simply picking numbers at random each round.
Select Boxes of Numbers
A handful of Keno statisticians revealed that over the course of tens of thousands of Keno cards, a pattern emerged. It showed that a larger percentage of winning Keno tickets contained numbers located in boxes (meaning numbers that were around each other in a square or rectangle pattern) as opposed to numbers selected randomly around the board. So for example, if you want to play a 6-spot of numbers you could go with 1-2-3-11-12-13 or 1-11-21-31-41-51. The experts found that players that stuck with 6-spot or 8-spot groupings – whether it was two boxes of three numbers each, four boxes of two numbers each, etc. – their win percentage was higher.
Watch for Promotions and Specials
In games like Classic Keno that offer lower high variance than other games, participating in all specials and promotions is important because they can help increase the amount of play you receive for your gaming dollar. Whether it’s free games or discounts on groups of tickets, finding unique deals on Keno is very similar to the Bingo community, where players love to participate in unique games.
Walk Away When Necessary
There are typically two reasons why you would want to walk away from a game. The most important reason is if you are on a losing streak, are no longer having fun and are simply trying to chase a win. At this point, even a small win will not be satisfying, so it’s best to just take a break from the game and return later. The same can be said after a player experiences a big win. Don’t immediately invest all of that money back into the game. Take it and try out a new game elsewhere in the casino or even make a withdrawal! There’s no point in adding up the paydays if you aren’t going to spend it on yourself a little.
Have Fun
At the end of the day, Classic online Keno isn’t designed to involve a lot of skill or number crunching on the player’s part. It’s a social game that’s meant to be played in the company of others or for those looking for a low-stress gaming option that doesn’t require too much thinking. As long as you’re having fun, then you’re playing it the right way!
